The Globestock WINCH is specifically certified for the raising and lowering of personnel or materials.
The 1:8.9 gear ratio makes personnel lifting easy, and delivers 50 mm of rope retrieval per rotation.
May be mounted to various anchorages, including the SENTRY Tripod and XTIRPA range (brackets required).

Q. What is the Globestock WINCH suitable for?
A. The WINCH is designed and certified for the raising, lowering and positioning of personnel and materials.
Q. What is the maximum working load of the WINCH?
A. Depending on the model, the WINCH has a maximum rated load of 250 kg / 550 lbs (galvanizing steel cable) or 200 kg / 440 lbs (stainless steel cable). Always refer to the ID label on the unit.
Q. What is the maximum lifting distance?
A. The WINCH is available with a rope length of 20 m (44 ft) or 40 m (88 ft) depending on model.
Q. Can the WINCH be used by more than one person at a time?
A. No. The WINCH is designed to raise or lower one person only at a time.
Q. Can the WINCH be used for both personnel and materials?
A. Yes. The WINCH is suitable for personnel and material handling, provided the maximum working load is not exceeded.
Q. Are there any physical limitations on who can use the WINCH?
A. Yes. Users with muscular, skeletal, medical or other physical conditions that could affect their ability to withstand suspension should consult a doctor before use. Pregnant women and minors must never use the WINCH.
Q. What anchor devices can the WINCH be used with?
A. The WINCH must be attached to EN 795 (or equivalent) certified anchor devices, such as the SENTRY Tripod. The anchor must be suitable for personnel lifting.
Q. Can the WINCH be used with uncertified anchorages?
A. No. Only certified anchor devices suitable for lifting personnel should be used. Incorrect anchor selection may compromise system safety.
Q. What harness is required when using the WINCH for personnel?
A. The user must wear a full-body harness conforming to EN 361. The karabiner must be connected only to the front or rear D-ring.
Q. How many people are required to operate the WINCH?
A. Two trained persons are required – one to operate the WINCH and one being raised or lowered.
Q. Is training required to use the WINCH?
A. Yes. All users must be adequately trained by a competent person in the use and pre-use inspection of the WINCH.
Q. How often should the WINCH be inspected before use?
A. A visual pre-use inspection must be carried out before every use.
Q. What should I do if the WINCH fails its pre-use inspection?
A. Remove it from service immediately, tag it as “UNUSABLE”, and quarantine it. Do not use it until it has been formally inspected and recertified.
Q. How often does the WINCH require formal inspection and recertification?
A. The WINCH must be formally inspected and recertified at least every 12 months by a Globestock-approved service agent. More frequent inspection may be required in harsh or heavy-use environments.
Q. What if the WINCH is overdue for inspection?
A. It must be immediately removed from service, tagged “UNUSABLE”, and returned for inspection and recertification.
Q. Who is authorised to inspect and recertify the WINCH?
A. Only Globestock-approved service agents are authorised to perform formal inspections and recertification.
Q. Can the WINCH be altered or modified?
A. No. The WINCH must never be altered or tampered with.
Q. What PPE is required when using the WINCH?
A. Users must wear appropriate PPE, including but not limited to:
- Safety gloves
- Safety glasses
- Safety footwear
Q. Is a rescue plan required when using the WINCH?
A. Yes. A clearly understood, pre-planned rescue and emergency action plan must always be in place.
