The STOP is a durable fall arrester (SRL 2-way) available with a steel or synthetic lifeline, in lengths of 10 m (33 ft), 14 m (46 ft), 25 m (82 ft) and 30 m (98 ft).

SYNTHETIC LIFELINE OPTION

The SAVER & STOP fall arresters are available with a steel or synthetic lifeline.

The new synthetic models follow the same construction and function of the popular SAVER/STOP fall arrester range, but are fitted with a high performance HMPE fibre lifeline. Using synthetic ropes for fall arrest systems can offer several benefits compared to traditional materials like steel cables:

  • Lightweight: Synthetic lifelines are significantly lighter than steel, making them easier to handle and transport.
  • Energy Absorption: Synthetic lifelines have some inherent elasticity, which means they will absorb energy in the event of a fall.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Unlike steel, synthetic lifelines are not susceptible to rust or corrosion.
  • Improved Handling: Synthetic lifelines are generally easier to handle than steel. They are less prone to causing hand injuries due to fraying or sharp edges.
  • Maintenance: Synthetic lifelines are less likely to split, deform or kink.
  • Reduce Electrocution Risk: This new product variant was specifically requested by several customers who work with electrical networks.

FAQ

Q. Can the STOP be used by more than one person simultaneously?

A. No. The STOP is designed for one user only. The user’s total weight (including clothing, tools and any carried items) must not exceed 141 kg (310 lbs).

Q. What is the minimum working load of the STOP?

A. The minimum working load of the STOP is 60 kg (132 lbs). It is not suitable for users whose total weight is below this value.

Q. Are there any physical limitations on who can use a STOP?

A. Users with muscular, skeletal, medical, or other physical conditions which may reduce their ability to withstand fall-arrest shock or prolonged suspension should consult a doctor before use. Pregnant women and minors must never use a STOP.

Q. Can the STOP be used to arrest falls due to the collapse of sliding masses (e.g. grain, sand, liquids) or on inclined surfaces?

A. No. The STOP must not be used to arrest falls due to the collapse of sliding masses or on inclined surfaces.

Q. What environmental factors need to be considered before using a STOP?

A. Consideration must be given to the following environmental factors before using a STOP:

  • Chemicals, gases, or corrosive environments
  • Sharp edges or abrasive surfaces
  • Proximity of power lines
  • Extreme temperatures – the STOP must not be used below –40°C (–40°F) or above 54°C (130°F)

Q. Do I need any specific training to use a STOP?

A. Yes. Users of a STOP SRL fall arrester must be adequately trained by a competent person in the use, inspection, and maintenance of this equipment.

Q. What anchor devices can I attach a STOP to?

A. The STOP can only be used on overhead anchorages or compatible anchor devices which conform to all applicable national standards and regulations. Compatible standards include BS EN 795, ANSI/ASSP Z359, and CSA Z259.

Q. Can the STOP be used with an uncertified anchorage?

A. The SAVER can only be used with uncertified anchorages that can support a static load in each direction permitted by the system, of at least 12 kN (BS EN 795) or 23 kN (5,000 lbf) (ANSI/ASSP Z359, CSA Z259). Contact Globestock directly if you have any doubts regarding compatibility or suitability between systems. 

Q. How often should I inspect the STOP?

A. A visual pre-use inspection must be carried out before every use, in accordance with the User Instructions.

Q. What should I do if the STOP fails its pre-use inspection?

A. Remove it from service immediately, tag it as “UNUSABLE,” and return it to a Globestock-approved service agent for formal inspection and recertification.

Q. Where can I take my STOP to have it formally inspected (serviced)?

A. Only Globestock-approved service agents are authorised to carry out formal inspections and recertifications. A list of approved service agents is available on the Globestock website.

Q. What is the minimum clearance?

A. The minimum clearance (MC) is the minimum distance required below the user’s feet to prevent impact with the ground or other obstacles during a fall. Refer to the User Instructions and clearance tables to determine the correct minimum clearance for your application.

Q. What is the pendulum effect?

A. The pendulum effect is the horizontal swing that may occur if the user is working away from the vertical anchor point. Additional free space is required to prevent collision with the structure or ground. Refer to the User Instructions to assess the impact of the pendulum effect on your minimum clearance.
